How exactly does Amigos develop a new menu? I was just as curious as you, so I had to ask our Executive Chef, James, a few questions about how this whole process of creating a new menu comes together. After all, how do you choose what to keep from all the amazing Mexican dishes and flavour combos to make the Amigos menu what it is today, and also keep it fresh and exciting? Check out the interview below to find out how it all works!

Behind the Scenes of Amigos Menu Development

In the world of culinary innovation, finding fresh inspiration is key to crafting exciting new dishes. James, the creative force behind the Amigos menu, shared insights into how he fuels his imagination and develops new menu items. Here’s a glimpse into his creative process:

Q1: How do you find inspiration for the new menu ideas at Amigos?
“I draw inspiration from a range of experiences. Travel, seasonal ingredients, and even conversations with customers spark my creativity. It’s about keeping an open mind and staying curious.”

Q2: Can you walk us through the process of how a new menu item is developed?
“It starts with an idea, often inspired by something I’ve tasted or a new ingredient I’ve come across. From there, it’s about experimenting in the kitchen, refining the recipe, and getting feedback from the team. Once we’re happy with it, it goes through a series of tastings before making it to the menu.”

Q3: How often do you update the menu at Amigos?
“We like to keep things fresh and exciting, so we update our menu regularly. There’s no strict schedule, but we aim to introduce new items every few months, depending on the season and customer feedback.”

Q4: I’ve noticed you run monthly specials that sometimes end up on the new menu. What role do these specials play in shaping the menu?
“The specials are a way to test new ideas and see how they resonate with our guests. It’s like a sneak peek into what might become a permanent fixture. We listen closely to customer feedback and use that to guide our decisions.”

Q5: Before a new item makes it onto the permanent menu, how do you determine if it’s a good fit?
“We definitely test new items as specials first. It allows us to gather real-world feedback and make adjustments as needed. If a dish gets positive reactions and fits well with our overall menu, we consider adding it permanently.”

Q6: Who are the key people involved in deciding whether a new dish will be added to the menu?
“It’s a team effort. Our kitchen crew, front-of-house staff, and sometimes even a few trusted friends are involved in testing and providing input. Everyone’s feedback is valuable in deciding if a new dish should make the cut.”

Q7: There’s a whole new burrito section on the menu, which is very exciting. What inspired this addition?
“Burritos have always been a favourite among our customers. Expanding this section was about giving people more of what they love, with new and creative twists. It’s also a fun way to explore different flavour combinations and ingredients.”

Q8: What do you hope customers experience when they try something new on the menu?
“When customers try something new, I hope they feel a sense of excitement and satisfaction. It’s all about creating memorable experiences and offering a taste of adventure. I want them to enjoy each bite and think, ‘Wow, this is something special.’”

I hope this gives you a better insight into how our menu comes to life, from the initial inspiration to the creation and feedback process. I’m thrilled to try it all myself—how about you? Book your table now and we’ll see you soon!
